Your Role

  • As the Principal Surveyor your duties will involve provision of technical advice, leadership of senior and junior staff, coordination of survey projects, and providing leadership in the growth of the Orion Survey Department

Responsibilities

  • Planning, execution, and finalisation of projects according to strict deadlines and within budget across the full project life cycle. This includes the acquisition of resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan;
  • As a Registered Surveyor (NSW) be bound by the laws of the NSW Survey & Spatial Information Act 2002 and its Regulations 2017
  • Accurately map out the position of boundaries where land is being subdivided
  • Provide industry leading advice in the field of surveying to Orion’s clients and staff
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks, and issues, communicating across leadership
  • Assist management in preparing tenders submissions including scope of works and project budgets
  • Utilise cutting-edge technology such as terrestrial robotic total stations, GNSS receivers to provide 3D measurement. Explore the use of new technology such as aerial drones & 3D scanners Liaison with authorities and utility agencies to obtain project approvals
  • Provide a comprehensive understanding of land, water and the air above it, its surrounds and its environment
  • Coordinate drafting activities with drafters (internal and external) to provide drawing sets to Orion standards
  • Lead the design of projects, coordinate staff and ensure all staff on project are complying with Orion processes and standards
  • Liaise with various project stakeholders including clients, consultants and relevant authorities
  • Manage the invoicing and budgeting of design projects
  • Ensure quality control processes for each project are implemented and documented
  • Ensure work output is of a technically high standard, meets client needs, and activities are commercially viable
  • Adoption, promotion and adherence to the Orion’s Quality Management (QMS) and Work Health & Safety (WHS) Systems (e.g., Securities of Payment Act), and standard form contract
  • Actively seek new business opportunities, through projects clients and new revenue streams
  • Your duties may require civil design primarily within the urban development space, including roads, lot grading and drainage infrastructure
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in anticipating and solving design issues
  • Coordinate design and drafting activities with drafters to provide drawing sets to Orion Standards
  • Ensure work output is of technically high standard, meets client needs, and activities are commercially viable
  • Provide technical support to peers, as well as mentor junior staff to further develop knowledge base and assist in career progression
  • Implementation of good practice, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to support the ongoing success of the business.
  • The Company may change your duties from time to time to meet the requirements of the business at the discretion of the Director.

Skills and Expertise

  • Bachelor Degree in Surveying
  • Minimum 15+ years Surveying experience within land development
  • Extensive understanding of project and program management principles, methods and techniques
  • Hold a Traffic Control/management certificate
  • Hold a First Aid Certificate
  • Possess a Class C Drivers License
  • Current WH&S Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Interpret and navigate legal aspects of land ownership
  • Advanced understanding and application of relevant Surveying requirements and legislation
  • Form strong relationships with government agencies and can provide insight into gaining approvals
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills with experience dealing with clients and external organisations in a professional manner
  • Demonstrated understanding and compliance with SWMS
  • Continually review and improve work methods and procedures where related to this position’s work activities in regard to best practice in environmental, quality and WH&S.
  • Ability to coordinate field staff, drafting activities and process field data
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
  • Promote continuous improvement by reviewing processes in the delivery of survey services
  • Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Excellent computer skills
  • To be able to work both independently and as part of team environment
  • Efficient time management skills to achieve project deadlines and budgetary constraints
  • Excellent leadership, communication (written, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal skills
